Maloney H.S. Senior Spotlight: Emily Arroyo

Postsecondary ReadinessStudent Voice and Success

The RISE Postsecondary Success team partners with high schools to ensure all students graduate on time and complete milestones for their identified postsecondary plans. In the coming weeks, we will celebrate the accomplishments of graduating seniors in our Core Network schools. Their dedication, hard work, and resilience have led them to this important goal. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!

What is your plan after you graduate from high school?

Emily: I will be going to the University of Puerto Rico. My intended major is Biology, to become a veterinarian.

What support did you receive to help you form your postsecondary plan?

Emily: I got help from my counselor and the head secretary in the counseling office. They guided me through college applications and scholarships, which made the process much easier.

What advice would you give to a rising senior?

Emily: Make sure you do your senior essay before it is time to apply to colleges! Most importantly, do your work on time during senior year because procrastinating is not fun, trust me. Take advantage of your counselors and make sure you apply to every scholarship you can, because applying to them, you don’t lose anything.

What are you most proud of, as you look back on your high school experience?

Emily: I’m proud that I did my sports and stuck to them, because through them, I met beautiful people and I learned a lot.

What are you most looking forward to, as you look ahead to the future?

Emily: To become an example for my cousins, but especially for my sister. I’m looking forward to making myself and my family proud, and to prove that I’m capable of more than I think.
