The RISE Postsecondary Success team partners with high schools to ensure all students graduate on time and complete milestones for their identified postsecondary plans. In the coming weeks, we will celebrate the accomplishments of graduating seniors in our Core Network schools. Their dedication, hard work, and resilience have led them to this important goal. Congratulations to the Class of 2025!
What is your plan after you graduate from high school?
Javian: I will be attending Central Connecticut State University and majoring in Criminal Justice.
What support did you receive to help you form your postsecondary plan?
Javian: My school counselor, Mrs. Morgan, helped me look into many different options that were available to me. She helped me with the whole college application process, my FAFSA, and she helped me complete scholarship applications. My teachers also helped me prepare, especially with my college essay and letters of recommendation. I attended Senior Signing Day. It was a fun day to celebrate with everyone and to see where they were going.
What advice would you give to a rising senior?
Javian: I would say focus on what you want to do and on the goals you want to achieve. Don’t give up on yourself. Make sure you pay attention to all emails and information in your Google Classroom in senior year so that you don’t miss important deadlines or information on all of the different people and resources that come to our school to help you.
What are you most proud of, as you look back on your high school experience?
Javian: I am proud of being a high school athlete on the football team for all 4 years, where I also made great friends. I am proud of making connections with so many different people, including my teachers, counselors, deans, principal, coaches, and secretaries. I am proud of completing ECE Human Rights and SCSU classes, I feel they prepared me for classes I will be taking at CCSU. I had a really fun experience at Naugatuck High School, and I made a lot of great memories.
What are you most looking forward to, as you look ahead to the future?
Javian: I am looking forward to pursuing my dream of becoming a criminal justice lawyer. I am looking forward to my journey at CCSU.
