On October 2, 36 educators from across the RISE Network of schools participated in an On-Track Culture Strategy Strand. This virtual session focused on building a culture that defines what it means to be on track and celebrates students’ progress. The session began with a discussion on the importance of cultivating an on-track culture, followed by practical steps educators have implemented in their schools.
The session likened building an On-Track Culture to tending a garden—requiring ongoing care, attention, and commitment to thrive. Educators engaged in cross-school discussions and explored impactful visual examples to promote this culture. Inspired by the session, participants selected a focus area for the semester. Common priorities included relationship-building, organizing “B’s or Better” events, and clearly communicating On-Track expectations to students, families, and staff.
Amanda Culmone, a Mathematics teacher from Hale Ray High School in Moodus, CT shared her focus area; “My focus is to encourage B’s or better with 9th graders through our Grade 9 meeting time, fostering student engagement and connectedness. I also plan to communicate with parents to highlight student successes.”
